2006/03/11 Flying vs Sleep

Since I wasn't going to Tahoe this weekend, I scheduled a couple of flights. On one side I had already lost my currency in Skylanes (Cessna 182s), so I scheduled another flight with an instructor to regain my currency.
On the other side, I did another flight in a Cutlass (Cessna 172RG, i.e. retractable gear) in order to continue my work towards a complex rating (high performance and retractable gear).
We had a nice crosswind in the afternoon, which was nice for practise, but it also showed that my limited amount of alertness due to generally bad sleep definitely messed with my ability to "be on the ball" and respond quickly and accurately to changing winds and being blown off the runway.
It's a bit frustrating because I know that another 100 hours of training wouldn't help as much as having dependable sleep... I guess that's also supposed to be good news at the same time if I can fix the former.
