Jennifer and I finally were in San Francisco on a day other than Tuesday when KitTea Cafe is closed, so we went to check it out:

Jennifer made a good friend there:

2017/01/03 Cafe des Chats in Paris
π 2017-01-03 00:00 in Cats
During our time in Paris, I figured we'd go check out a somewhat new cat café in Paris (one out of only two). By the time we arrived, we found out that it was actually kind of a real café/restaurant with a proper menu, and somehow they are allowed to serve food with cats roaming around.
There was however a line to get in, and once in people were actually expected to order food or at least a drink and stay at their table with maybe cats that could come by you, or not. It didn't seem like you could roam around and go find the cats to pet them.

Clearly that looked underwhelming compared to other cat cafés we've been to, so we didn't bother going in. I just took a few pictures from the outside:

2016/07/26 Two Cat Cafes in Osaka: Cat Tail and Neko no Jikan

For our last half day in Japan, Osaka, we went to a couple of Cat Cafés in the Namba area. We started with Cat Tail, where I had not been before, so we fixed that:

After almost an hour, we moved to another café: Neko no Jikan. I had been there before, but only a mere 12mn just before they were closing, so it was nice to spend a bit more time. They definitely have very exotic cats, but they are not super friendly, even to their first customers in the morning:

It was fun to see those cats before having to go back to the airport.

2016/07/12 Hedgehog Café in Tokyo
π 2016-07-12 00:00 in Cats, Japan, Japan2016, Trips
Yeah, so Japan is known for having the crazy cafés. They started with the cat cafés, then bunny café, owl café, and now a hedgehog café.

We came around 19:30, the hedgehogs were alert and active (they are nocturnal animals, so it's not surprising that they are sleepy during the day). The staff did have some that they left alone so that they could rest, and let us chose amongst the ones that were awake and active.
Now, let's be fair, hedgehogs are not really meant to be furry pets, especially with strangers. The 2 I got bit me, not to attack me, but because they confused me with food (their sight is poor, they work by smell), but on the plus side their teeth are not sharp so while I was convinced they'd draw blood, they did not. One of the 2 also pooped on me repeatedly (but they have baby wipes for that).

Was it fun? Yes.
Are hedgehogs really the best animals for petting cafés? I'd definitely say no, but eh, we had to go check it out :)

That being said, they're still cute and make for good pictures:

Totally randomly, we were walking around Myeong-Dong station in Seoul, and I happened to notice a cat café in the corner of my eye. I made note of it, and went back after dinner to go check it out, out of curiosity.

Jennifer opted out because she didn't have any anti allergy drugs. I didn't expect too much, often cats in cafés are not very friendly because they tend not to like seeing lots of different people, but some of the ones I saw actually were very nice, it was a pleasant surprise:

Since I was in Osaka's Ame Mura, I went to check out a couple of Neko cafes. The first one (Neko no Jikan) had very unusual cats :)

2014/04/28 Farewell To Our Cat
π 2014-04-28 00:00 in Cats
Unfortunately Jennifer has become more and more allergic to our cat in a way that it wasn't a good idea to keep him. On some days she'd be ok, on others not at all. At the same time the poor bugger has been needing more medical help, which I've been happy to give, and we figured we could likely keep him until his death, but recent flare ups Jennifer had made us decide otherwise.
Because he was sick, it was not possible to give him away anywhere, but the nice lady I got him from over 10 years ago was able to get him back and will be able to care for him on his last days (including daily fluid shots, and more).

Soon before he left, we when didn't know how much he'd live still, Jennifer wanted to give him a little tour of our yard with a made up leach. He wanted to go there, but due to racoons, poison oak he could bring home, and more, that just wasn't practical for him or us, so she gave him a supervised walk for him to enjoy the plants and grass:

On his last day with us, I took a couple of pictures. By then he had lost a fair amount of weight already:

After that, we had to do a full and thorough house cleaning:

We'll miss him, he really was a good cat without an attitude and wanting nothing more than companionship, being pet, and sitting on your lap or next to you.

2014/02/07 Fluids to help our poor cat with failing kidneys
π 2014-02-07 00:00 in Cats
Unfortunately, we recently found out that our cat has terminal kidney disease (first he was drinking too much, and then it quickly switched to him mostly stop eating). I had to take him to the vet where he was diagnosed and they put him on fluids for 2 full days.
We took him home with an IV needle in his paw and he had to wear that plastic thing around his head so that he wouldn't try to chew the bandage and needle out.

he wasn't happy with that bandage around his leg

he also had a harder time eating with that

He's now back at home and I put 100ml of fluids through his skin with a needle in his back/neck to make up for the job that his kidneys can't do anymore in clearing toxins. According to his blood tests, it has helped a fair amount, but there is no miracle, at this point his life expectancy is less than a year.

Considering he's about 14, I guess it's not great but not too bad/early either, I just hope he gets to go peacefully when the time comes. For now, while he's still not eating too much, but he's at least looking perky and seems to be able to enjoy life still, trying to find any chance he gets to jump on Jennifer's or my lap so I guess that's a good thing :)

now that he doesn't have the IV and bandage, he looks happier on my knees again :)
