Ok, so I like Techno, more specifically Trance. Unfortunately, the US, it's let's just say... a bit behind in that department. If you ever hear such music on the radio, or even in the street, let me know (for instance, in Australia, I heard great Techno in even a waterslide park of all places).
Anyway, at least, with San Francisco nearby, I've had some opportunities to see some great DJs, even if at least at 1015, I've often been disappointed by what they played compared to their usual sets (it's been better overall at Ruby Skye in the recent years).

Over time, I've seen many of my favorite DJs across the world, whether it was locally, in New York City, Canada, Australia, and of course Ibiza, and at Halloween 2004, I finally attended some great local parties that proved that you could get the good stuff locally too (even if all the artists came from other countries .
That said, I ended up finding out that some of my favourite DJs who put out great CDs and mixes, unfortunately mixed mostly boring tunes when I saw them live. That was quite a disappointment, but I have been hanging on for the few times where some DJs did actually play great live sets). It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it

2000/06/23 Ten15 Sasha Digweed

This was my first night out clubbing, I went to 1015 to see Sasha and Digweed.
I got to realize early on that clubbing wasn't just all fun and games. Getting in was a complete clusterfuck, there was a line that went twice around the bloc and not everyone got in, and once I did get in, Sasha and Digweed started so late that I wsa too tired to stay very long.
In the end, it wasn't a big deal because I found out later that I didn't really like Sasha nor Digweed anyway.

But eh, you have to start somewhere, that was it for me :)

2001/07/07 Atomic San Nettwerk Mehat

After a couple of disappointments, I actually flew to Ottawa to see my friend San Mehat at the Atomic.
San played and awesome Trance set all night. This was the stuff I was after, and it was an awesome evening.
More, give me more! :)

Did I mention that San "Nettwerk" Mehat really ruled? If more DJs played real trance like him during their sets, I'd be out more often.

I was excited to go see Paul Van Dyk for the first time, but it was only one of many disappointments. The 2 times I saw him at 1015, he showed up ridiculously late (04:00), and quite frankly what he played wasn't that great.
Later on, in Ibiza, I didn't really like his sets that much more.

I never got PvD. He's always done great CDs like Politics of Dancing, but never played nice trance in the sets of his I went to :(

The Sasha & Digweed at the Center Pavillion event was a good idea: it actually started at a decent time (21:00) and it was easy to get in.
Unfortunately, this evening confirmed that I just didn't like Sasha nor Digweed's live sets (even if they did some good tracks and mixes: Sasha - Expander is still a favourite!)

I'm a big Hybrid fan, so I showed up when the came to 1015. Just like others, they unfortunately didn't play back to back tunes that were nearly as nice as what's in their albums. I was starting to see a pattern by then :-/ (such a shame because their albums were awesome).

After I had the opportunity, I figured I'd go in the Lion's Den and spend a week in Ibiza to be on vacation during the day, and go to the legendary clubs at night.
