Day 3: Conferences: Future Plans for IP Packet Filtering under Linux
Paul Russell and Michael Neuling teamed up to give this talk. Paul is the guy
who rewrote the firewalling portion of the kernel, and he's the guy to blame
for ipchains
(the change from ipfwadm to ipchains sucks a bit, but it is for the better:
once you read the ipchains documentation, you'll realize how much better it
is).
Paul is a funny, outspoken guy. He isn't too shy about voicing his opinions
either
They gave a technical talk on the current kernel implementation, and how they
plan to rework it, so that it is more logical and easier to maintain and work
with. It will also allow the addition of new features.
