I can't believe it: got a double disk failure on my raid5 on New Year's eve.
First, I checked through the serial console to see if anything was recoverable, but my raid5 would just not last long enough to come back up because as soon I brought it back on 4 drives instead of 5, a 2nd drive would throw out errors and kill the array again :(
Eventually, I realized that I had to fail my services to moremagic, which took a couple of hours, but most everything should be running correctly from there now. I can't say how happy I am to have planned for this by bringing up a backup/secondary server up a while ago. Bringing it in my luggage to Paris 3 years ago, and the work to configure/install it, is really paying off now, I'd be pretty screwed without it right now...
Happy New Year though.
