Day 3: Conferences: Linux Standard Base Status Report
Dan Quinlan from Transmeta gave this presentation on LSB. Dan is the guy who
maintains the
Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, so
he is obviously an ideal guy to work on LSB.
Here are a few points from his presentation:
- LSB's goal is to help make all distributions more alike, avoid the need for
certification with different distributions. It would still be OK for each
distribution to have its own features, but the base system (i.e. everything
that is part of LSB) should be the same
- The DLL syndrome should be avoided at all cost (each application can't
require and install its own version of the libraries).
Jonathan Corbet also has a
few notes about this talk
