Comdex Fall 1999: The Penguin Playoffs
Linux Journal Editors' Choice Awards
Since it's very hard to get from here to there in Vegas during Comdex,
especially if you had planed to use a taxi, I was thankful to be able to catch
a ride on a limo that brought us to Gameworks where the event was.
After a nice Dinner buffer, Peter Salus, managing editor of SSC, with Linus's
help, presented the awards

The funny thing is that Peter called Linux a former toy operating system on two
occasions, which made Linus regret that he didn't bring a Nerf gun
Playoffs party
Caldera and ZDnet are to be thanked for this great party: they booked Gameworks,
the best entertainment center on the Las Vegas Strip.
The friendly Gameworks staff was wearing Caldera Shirts.
So we played lots of games. I played a bunch of different games with Linus
and got my butt kicked every single time but once: I did get to win the first
game of air hockey as he said he wasn't good at it, but I can tell you, it
didn't take him long to learn.
I tried other racing games, but to no avail, and after rock climbing, I gave up:
he had gone to the top in the time it took me to get prepared for the climb
Linus went up there in no time
Yeah, I'm faking a smile here, but let me tell you, this is really hard
70 feet is a long way to go
They also had that great kung fu game where you actually kicked and punched
while a camera was watching you
Give Sean Perry (shaleh) from Debian a few drinks, and he'll kick your ass
This party was lots of fun. Thanks a lot to Linux Journal, ZD, and especially
Caldera.
