"I have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat."
- Rebecca West, in 1913

Q: What was your first computer?
A: An Apple IIGS that my mother bought.

Q: How/When did you get started with Linux?
A: My first PC was a Windows machine. I hated Windows. I wanted something else, but didn't know what else there was out there, aside from just buying a Macintosh. My boyfriend showed me Linux, which I then had him install on my PC. I loved it. I took it to work, and had the only Linux machine in the shop. I spent my off-time playing with the system, and learning how to admin my own machines.

Q: Education?
A: Nothing beyond High School. I am actually very pleased with what I have been able to accomplish on a high school degree. Its one of the wonderful things about this industry, that a college degree is not necessary for success.

Q: What brought you to VA Linux?
A: After I got introduced to Linux, I decided that what I wanted was to work for a Linux company. At the time, there didn't seem to be too many of them. I found VA Research on the web, and decided that whatever I did, I had to work here. Fortunately for me, they needed someone with my skills.

Q: What do you do at VA Linux?
A: When I first started working here in 1998, I was a Tech Support engineer. There were only two of us, and things were usually hectic, but I loved the work. Now, I am a part of the Web Team. I work on the website design, content and structure. Again, a job I love.

Q: What are your hobbies?
A: Many many things. :) In my spare time, I manage my own website, domain and servers. I spend time futzing around with new software, upgrading my machines, or just playing video games. I love doing 9 hour movie marathons at the local theater, or at home. I write some, as well as read as many novels as I can find the time for. I draw and paint, do Sculpey sculpting and beadwork. I also spend a fair amount of time with my friends, at parties or dance clubs.

Q: Do you have any suggestions for web sites that people who are new to Linux might find useful?
A: http://www.linux.com/ - For general Linux information and links
http://freshmeat.net/ - For software updates, and searches
http://www.slashdot.org/ - For getting an idea of the Community, and its News

Q: What is your position on siege weaponry of the Middle Ages, and which is your favorite one? Why?
A: One of the most fascinating things to me is ancient engineering. Ever looked at how a Trebuchet is built? Or Caesar's bridge over the Rhine? I think the uses of Medieval siege weaponry are underestimated. Have problems with your neighbors constantly laying siege to your home? Arm your trusty catapult, and rain fire and plague down upon their heathen hordes!!
